ICAO 054 Approach or Area Control Surveillance
This course covers rules and procedures for area surveillance control. Students will use the ATC simulator to develop skills and techniques required for surveillance control. Each student will have simulation exercises where they receive one-on-one instruction, including briefs and debriefs. Exercises are designed to give students a step-by-step learning curve that progresses from simple to complex traffic scenarios in the end-route phase of the flight. Students are expected to demonstrate a competency level in safety, orderliness and expedition of air traffic. On successful completion of the course, the participant will have acquired the necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes required to undertake On Job Training at an Approach or area control unit under the supervision of a licensed air traffic control officer, for the issue of an Approach Area Surveillance Rating.
