Qatar Aeronautical Academy (QAA) is an approved testing site for IELTS. IELTS measures the ability to communicate in English across all four language skills – listening, reading, writing, and speaking.

What is IELTS?

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is the world’s most popular high-stakes English language proficiency test for study, work and migration with more than two million tests taken in the past year.

IELTS results are recognised by more than 9,000 organisations, including educational institutions, employers, professional associations and governments, in 140 countries around the world.

IELTS is a test of all four language skills: Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. You will take the Listening, Reading and Writing tests all on the same day one after the other, with no breaks in between. Your Speaking test may or may not be on the same day as the other three tests.

Test Types

Pen and papers

1. Paper-based IELTS

If you choose paper based IELTS, you will answer the Listening, Reading and Writing sections on a paper. The Speaking test is carried out face-to-face with a trained IELTS Examiner.

The Listening, Reading and Writing components of all IELTS tests are completed on the same day. The Speaking component, however, can be completed up to a week before or after the other tests.

2. Computer-delivered IELTS

If you choose the new option, you will take the Listening, Reading and Writing sections using a computer. The Speaking test will remain face-to-face, as we believe it is the most effective way of assessing your speaking skills and prompts a more lifelike performance.

All other aspects of the test are identical, whether it is taken on paper or on computer. Results for computer-delivered IELTS will be available 5-7 days after you finish all sections of your test.

3. One Skill Retake (OSR)

IELTS One Skill Retake allows you to retake one of the four skills (Listening, Reading, Writing, or Speaking) if you need to improve in just one area. We know most test takers get the scores they need first time, but if you feel you haven’t performed to your best in one area, IELTS One Skill Retake can help you get back on track.

Yes, you can take IELTS One Skill Retake if :

·  you have completed a full test at a centre that offers One Skill Retake
·  your full test was an eligible IELTS on computer test
·  you sit your One Skill Retake within 60 days of your full IELTS test

You will receive a new IELTS Test Report Form, that includes your new IELTS One Skill Retake result as well as the results from the previous skills you did not retake. This Test Report Form will be dated the same as your original IELTS Academic or General Training test.

IELTS Academic

The IELTS Academic test is for people applying for higher education or professional registration in an English speaking environment. It reflects some of the features of academic language and assesses whether you are ready to begin studying or training.

This approach is widely supported by the institutions that recognise IELTS.

IELTS General Training

The IELTS General Training test is for those who are going to English speaking countries for secondary education, work experience or training programs. It is also a requirement for migration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. The test focuses on basic survival skills in broad social and workplace contexts.

Individual organisations have different requirements. Make sure you check which IELTS test the organisation you are applying to recognises.

The IELTS whistle-blowing policy is intended to encourage and promote honest and ethical behaviour by providing a framework for test takers and other stakeholders to escalate concerns about actual, suspected or anticipated wrongdoing (malpractice) within the IELTS Test Partners (British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, Cambridge Assessment English) and within IELTS USA. Under the policy, test takers and other stakeholders are able to report instances, or suspected instances, of unethical, improper, unlawful or undesirable conduct without fear of intimidation or reprisal. This policy applies to all IELTS test takers and to other stakeholders. We act in the best interest of anyone who reports suspected wrongdoing under this policy to protect them from adverse reaction and the public disclosure of their identity. If you have reasonable grounds for believing that wrongdoing has occurred, or is likely to occur, within the IELTS Test Partners (British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, Cambridge Assessment English) or within IELTS USA, please report it by using the online report form found on www.ielts.org or contact a member of the testing team for assistance
